Operation Beautiful

I finally posted my first Operation Beautiful post today, at the shopping centre. The ran away so no-one would know it was me! But at least I've set my ball rolling.

I really the idea of this project, and its one of me new years resolutions to post many around, partially in a fake it til you make it effort. I don't really know what to write either. These are what I'm thinking so far:

  • I've never seen a smiling face that wasn't beautiful.
  • Smile, You're gorgeous!
  • You are more beautiful than you believe.
  • I hope you know just how gorgeous you are.
  • Just like Bridget Jones, some one thinks you're perfect just the way you are.
  • There are no absolute standards of beauty. Thats what makes its pursuit so interesting.
  • Beauty is so much more than a pretty face.
  • Life is a succession of moments. To live each one is to succeed
  • The best cosmetic in the world is an active mind that is always finding something new.
  • The minute you alter your perception of yourself and your future, both you and your future begin to change.
  • Nobody can make you feel inferior without your permission.
I will use these and any others I can think of, to spread the word.

In other news, its presents time tonight! I know Í'm getting a WiiFit from the OH, but beyond that who knows! Were having a quiet night in, with a platter of cheese and meat and olives and dips and home made bread (if it works!) and things, with spiced summer fruit muffins for pudding. Hopefully the spiced fruit works! I stewed it last week before I went to work with ginger and mixed spice, then put it into a jam jar while it was still boiling, so hopefully it wont be off and the flavours will have gone crazy. It doesn't look mouldy, so fingers crossed!
I bought some pink sparkling wine (was definitely going to get the Pink Moet Chandon but still cant bring myself to spending $100 on a bottle of wine that will probably be left un drunk. Maybe for Australia Day.) and some Amaretto (mmmm... almonds = christmas) and we'll probably just crash in front of the TV til the fireworks.

Have a good new years eve. 2010 tomorrow!

Vogue to support 'curvier' models

I was well impressed when I read that Vogue had a "curvier" model on its cover, until I saw what that meant and read some of the other stuff surrounding it.

After that photo in Glamour all those months ago I was expecting some slight sign of not being perfect, but I couldnt actually tell the she wasnt a "normal" model.

At five feet ten and a size 4, supermodel Lara Stone has struggled to fit in. Stone is about 2 sizes larger than her modeling peers, but this has not stopped her career from skyrocketing...“It’s depressing when the clothes don’t fit and you are always the odd one out"…“People still tell me I’m fat, but when I look in the mirror, that’s not what I see.”... A A- From Here

And also
Vogue editor Anna Wintour has vowed to use curvier models in her magazine.
Wintour has promised to include larger beauties in upcoming issues of the US fashion bible after the success of the January 2010 cover shot image of 25-year-old model Lara Stone - which she hopes will encourage other publishers to avoid skeletal models...The busty beauty - who has a UK size eight figure - recently admitted she wished she was not the only curvaceous model."I'm different because I am fat. It would be nice if I wasn't the only person with t.ts and an a..e," Stone said..."I'm a woman, and every woman wants to be thinner, unfortunately."

B- From Here

So... I can't decide if this makes me happy or not:
Not having skeletal models all the time Y
Using a model to highlight this who calls is refered to as fat as a sz 8 N
Creating a realistic idea of womanly beauty Y
Her saying that she wishes she was thinner N

What d'ya reckon? Step in the right direction, at least?

I can bench press 30kg.

Yey!

A couple of months ago I couldn't do the bar on its own. Tonight I did 2x10 @ 20, 3x10 at 25kg and 1x10 at 30. They were hard, and I'll stick with the 25s for a while, but just wanted to see. It felt good to actually put plates on the bar.

MUST REMEMBER: You don't actually like christmas pudding, so why eat it?

Well, its Christmas and I'm in the Pilbara with a string of tinsel around my neck, trying to do some work but failing! And I'm ill. Stupid cough and slight temperature. Enough to get keep the onsite nurse on her toes anyway. So no exericse for me. Think thats what did me in, because on wednesday when I was just feeling a little under the weather I did about 2 hours of "exercise walking" (at least I didnt go for a run like planned) and weights, then on wednesday night the cough struck with a vengence and just gets worse!

Its strange to think that a year ago I was in Thailand on forced leave, wondering if I would even have a job to come back too! And the year before that I was all flustered because I had to fly back to work on Boxing Day and it would be the first time I'd had to work underground alone...

And this year I'm a project Geo with a massive budget

How things change...

Also, trying to stick to calories, because its hardly a special day up here! Save them now and use them for new years, when we feast... Though may end up drinking them tonight... Drown my sorrows :)

Tonights plan is to load up on good veggies (not honey glazed carrots, creamed spinach etc etc), turkey and prawns (assuming the prawns will exist...) and avoid PUDDING!

Minimal damage now, and healthy Perth time in January and February= Ellen at Goal in early '10.

MUST REMEMBER: You don't actually like christmas pudding, so why eat it?

Merry Christmas One and All!

Perth Pink Triathalon

Generally a very good day! Massive turnout- over 1000 pinkies apparently.
Lots of women of all different ages and fitness levels. It was quite a site to behold!
So...

Swim
8:30 for the 300m, including some transition. Think my HRM said under 8 minutes for the actual water time which I was happy. Put me 297th overall, 38th in my group.

Cycle
36:08 for the 10km. Slower than I'd have liked, but I went pretty hard but I guess I'd not trained too hard for this bit as I cycle fairly regularly but rarely swim. Obviously it needs work! To my credit, there were a few bits where I reached terminal velocity and didnt have the gears left to go faster... New bike needed?! Put me 337th overall and 31st in my age group.

Run
18:05 for the 3kms. Just as the sun came out and it suddenly got hotter! Pleased with my run time (same pace over 3km as the C2S... hmmm), though it was always going to be my strength.

Put me 192nd overall and 22nd in my group.

Apparently I came out of transition about 5 minutes behind a friend of mine who used to do real triathlons before she went overseas for a year, and finished about 30 seconds behind her, so got to be happy with that. She gained the 5 minutes in the cycle, and shes mainly a cyclist, so yey!

Afterwards went for Brunch with a group of girls I didn't know (my friends friends friends...) which was actually quite good fun. Never really done "Brunch with teh girls" but I might have to start.
