Our Emigration Story

I have lived in Perth for around 4 years now, and am a true SOR gal. :)

Chance first brought me to Perth, I applied for a Rio Tinto Internship. Out of the many many applicants in a variety of fields, they chose me and they chose Australia. So I spent the summer between my 3rd year at Uni and my Masters working for Rio Tinto Exploration in the Pilbara and Kimberly, and living in Perth.

And I loved it. I don't know why, it just felt right. And it wasn't all the blue skies and sunshine because it was winter and rainy and windy and cold!

I went back home, told The Boy I was moving to Perth when my Masters was over and he could come with me if he wanted. i.e. I'm going and you can't stop me but I hope you love me enough to see sense. We'd been together a year by this point, and two by the time we moved. Photo below is the first night we spent in our first apartment together. I'd been here 6 weeks and the Boy had just arrived. I picked up the keys a few days before (I'd been living in hotels before that) but had been so busy with work I hadn't had time to do anything house-y, and the furniture hadn't been delivered yet, so we slept on the floor in the living room of a totally empty 3 bedroom house. :)

And now its home and I couldn't imagine my life back in the UK. It just wouldn't work. There are no jobs doing what I want to do, there is no beautiful foreshore to run around, no massive country to explore and a less laid back atmosphere. Not to mention the weather ;)
I miss my friends and family, but we have good friends here. At some point every one has to fly the next (or have it whisked away from under them). I just flew further.

Now we have our residency, bought our first house, and have just been granted our citizenship
